Manitoba Legislature Lit Up with Pride Colours | Pride Parade Grand Marshals Chris Vogal and Richard North
Pride 25 was a HUGE success, with an estimated cumulative attendance of 20,000 people attending the rally, parade, and festival at The Forks – not to mention the several thousand that participated in community events and bar nights throughout Pride Week!
This year, we celebrated 25 years since the inclusion of protection against discrimination based on sexual orientation in Manitoba’s Human Rights Code, which began the Pride movement in Winnipeg. Most notably, we lit up the legislature in rainbow colours to put the spotlight on the government building where these laws – advancements of human rights and equality in our province – were drafted and passed.
We also saw a record number of floats in this year’s parade, record attendance, a fresh new look and taste for Queer Beer, and a record number of community events – 28 spread over the course of 10 days. WOW! All this would NOT be possible without the support of people like YOU!
To our small army of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers, to our generous sponsors, advertisers, and partners, and to those who planned exciting Pride Week activities on behalf of the community, we say THANK YOU! See you in June of 2013!
