- In 1973 Happenings opens. It and closes in 2003, being the longest running LGBTTQ bar in Canada.
- Giovanni's Room (Gio's) opens in 1982 on second floor of 275 Sherbrook St. and is still thriving at 155 Smith Street.
- "Two-spirit" originated in Winnipeg, Canada in 1990 during the third annual intertribal Native American/First Nations gay and lesbian conference.
- On October 28, 1998 the Honourable Glen Murray is elected mayor of Winnipeg. He is the first openly gay mayor in Canada.
- Over 40 ethnic cultures with the largest Aboriginal population in Canada
- A vibrant and active pride committee and celebration since 1987
