Winnipeg, MB – Leading into weekend events that culminate in Pride Day on Sunday, June 6 with the largest Pride parade in Winnipeg history, the Pride Winnipeg committee is pleased to name one of its special guests, Ken Coolen, President of the Vancouver Pride Society, as an honourary parade marshall.

Here's a quick summary of what's going on this weekend
Friday 12 noon - Flag Raising at City Hall - Watch the rainbow colours fly over our city ceremonial kick-off to pride. 510 Main St., courtyard, rain or shine
Community events leading up to Pride Day include: Pride Coffee House, Gio's Evening Events, Golf Tournament, Cocktails in the Trees, GLBTT Artists present DJ Tracy Young, Flapjacks, Family and Fun. See Community Events page for all details.
PRIDE DAY! - Sunday June 6, 2010
12:00 pm - Rally at the Legislature - Get pumped for the parade, listen to inspiring speakers and see amazing performances from The Rainbow Harmony Project and the RRC Youth Group.
12:30 pm - Pride Parade down Broadway - Thousands of people, dozens of floats, the largest Pride in Winnipeg ever! March with pride or come down and watch. It's the most colourful parade in Winnipeg.
1:00pm - 6:00pm - Free outdoor festival at the Forks including: Live music featuring Jeff Straker, Shitting Glitter, and R&B Superstar Deborah Cox! Grounds include family fun zone, Lambda Business Fair, a new Beer & Beverage Tent plus much more!
Fusion: White & Wild Dance Party - The best way to wrap up your pride experience! Dance late into the night in waves of white at the official Pride Winnipeg Dance party. Featuring an encore performance by Deborah Cox! Tickets $25.

More floats and walking groups than ever before
The Pride Winnipeg committee is excited to announce
that this Sunday’s Pride Parade will be the biggest one that Winnipeg
has ever seen! The parade will feature more floats and walking groups
than ever before.
“We’re thrilled to see that the community is overwhelmingly on board
for this year’s Pride celebrations,” said Barb Burkowski, Chair of the
Pride Winnipeg committee.

Don't miss the ceremonial kick-off to the Pride Winnipeg Festival at the Rainbow Flag Raising at City Hall. The event beings at 12:00 noon on Friday June 4th in the City Hall Courtyard - 510 Main Street. This year's honourary flag raisers are local activists, community leaders, and former Pride Committee members Jennifer Davis and Jonny Sopotiuk.
Join community members, leaders, and city officials to watch the rainbow colours fly high and proud.

For the first time, Winnipeg will have it's very own DYKE MARCH on Saturday June 5, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. The route is
from the park at Young and Broadway to Memorial Park. You can bring
yourselves, or signs, or whatever you see fit. The march will end with
just chilling in the park, playing frisbee, mingling etc. This is not a parade. It is a political demonstration to show our strength as a community. Everyone is welcome. See our Community Events listing, or the Facebook Event page for more details.

This year’s Pride events will be bigger, but our impact on the environment is getting smaller
The Pride Winnipeg committee is pleased to announce the adoption of a Green Plan, which, for the first time, puts measures in place to reduce the environmental impact of our rally, parade, and festival.

Pride Week in 2010 will be virtually unrecognizable as many major changes are afoot. This year marks the move of Pride festivities to The Forks, the much-beloved meeting place for Winnipeggers and tourists alike.

For some people, celebrating Pride culminates in Pride Day activities – the rally at the legislature, the parade through downtown Winnipeg, and the Pride Festival that follows. But there’s a whole week of activities that lead up to the big day, and we want you to be involved!
