2018 Community Feature: Oh Doughnuts

Oh Doughnuts’ support of Pride Winnipeg is a no brainer, it’s Gay Christmas! Since we are owned and operated by a lesbian, employ a diverse range of people from the LGBT2SQ+ community and welcome all to our humble little doughnut shop, we are delighted to support Winnipeg’s most visible (and fabulous) event.

While we still have some way to go for the level of acceptance we deserve in this world, we feel it’s important to acknowledge the power of today’s youth, as well as our privilege and responsibility to speak up for everyone who might need it.

Our community has had a long history of fighting for acceptance and being viewed as valued members of society. There is a disturbing discourse that is happening south of the border, but it is seeping into our own backyards. It affects all of us regardless of sexuality, gender identity, race, religion or socio economic status. While previous LGBT2SQ+ generations did a lot of the heavy lifting for tolerance and then acceptance, it is today’s youth that have the tools to illicit the kind of change needed today.

So we need to continue to be fabulous in our small/big prairie town, speak up when we know in our hearts something needs to be said and just be there for each other. After all, hope will never be silent.

And of course, let them eat fabulous doughnuts.

Happiest Pride to you all from everyone at Oh Doughnuts!
